SPARS:
We used inexpensive Windsurfer Masts (Two-Piece, OK) that tapered from a 2” Dia. base.
A 15’ length (457cm) is used for the MAST. Two 6” Lengths were cut from a 12’ (365cm) length, with the bigger end used as the BOWSPRIT, and the smaller end used for the GAFF. Another 12 ‘ length was cut for the BOOM.
We reinforced the ends as noted, especially in the Bowsprit. If only 12’ (366cm lengths can be found, the Mast Base, below the Hinge Cut, can be a 2” Dia. Full-Round Wood Dowel.
2” Aluminum 6061-T-6 Tubes can also be used for Spars, but are getting hard to find.

PEAK HALYARD-- 50’ of 1/4” or 5/16” ROPE
THROAT HALYARD-- 30’ of 1/4” or 5/16” ROPE
SAILING FITTINGS:
(Hardware Store Pulleys and Cleats, etc. will work. We sailed them for years. But check with an outfitter like West Marine to compare prices. Sometimes real sailing fittings are not that much more expensive than Hardware Store, and sailing pulley blocks are smoother working).
